Cast Glass Pacific Octopus by Preston Singletary and David Franklin

This cast glass octopus by Preston Singletary and David Franklin appears be emerging from any surface it’s placed upon. Watch it rise from the depths in transparent blue green and black. This is a new glass sculpture collaboration between David Franklin and Preston Singletary. Casting by our friend, the glass master, Ray Ahlgren, at Fireart Glass in Portland.

The Octopus is a common theme in both Preston’s and my work. In Prestons’s Tlingit culture it has connotations of shamanism. It has become a common theme for both of us in our individual and collaborative work. This Octopus does have a hint of Tlingit sculptural form in the eye orbs but takes a decidedly contemporary turn in its medium and its stance.

Cast Glass, 5″h x 7″w x 4.75″d
