Weaver’s Welcome dedication, Indigenous People’s Day 2019

Weaver’s Welcome was a collaboration between, Preston SIngletary(Tlingit), Brian Perry, (Port Gamble S’Klallam), Anthony Jones Sr. (Port Gamble S’Klallam). The sculpture is made of bronze, glass beads and glass castings and is 11′ tall.

It was made in honor of Cecilia Jackson. She was the grandmother and great grandmother of Brian Perry, and Anthony Jone’s Sr, respectively. She was a weaver.

The figures’ hands are offering a traditional welcoming gesture. The piece is detailed with indigenous patterns from around the Salish Sea and Washington State. The base is a box inspired by work in the collection of the museum. It is detailed with glass beads, the first form of glass art practiced in Washington State.

The body, corona are all large glass castings of carvings.  The castings were made by Ray Ahlgren of Fireart Glass Studio. Learn more about the project here.
